Born in New Jersey and raised in Kansas City, Missouri — with a brief stint in Hawaii — Thill landed in New York City about three years ago and from what he told us, he’ll be here for a while, in between fantastic foreign forays of course.
“When I’m not traveling, I get so much [inspiration] from NYC,” he tells AskMen of the main muse within his otherwise mobile lifestyle. “No matter where I go, NYC will always be an inspiration and home to me.”
So what got this travelin’ man into taking his style international? Not what you might expect: “To be 100 percent honest, it kind of started by accident,” he admits. “I studied violin performance most my life before realizing I had too many passions to just focus [on one]. I’m obsessed with traveling and love a last minute adventure …” And here he is. After three years in the city, and his site only passing one year this spring, Thill has made a name for himself among the jet set.
“My personal Instagram page just kind of morphed into what it is now. If you go back far enough, you can see high-school pics of me with friends and everything. [Now] I treat [it] as a visual journal of sorts.” As his “journal,” grew, so did those interested in following along, which has lead to quite a noteworthy project he is currently working on.
“Currently, I’m getting so much of my inspiration from traveling and seeing new places [and] different cultures,” he explains. “I just came back from a two week solo bike trip through the Costa Brava region of Spain (which you can read all about here) and I’m currently on a trip through Amsterdam and Comporta, Portugal for a project with KLM Airlines.”
Nice work if you can get it, and for Thill, he gets a lot of it.

But what made us pick this summer outfit as the summer comes to an end? Celebrating the season with one final hurrah over Labor Day weekend. Whether it’s the Costa Brava region of Spain or the local swimming hole — which for someone like Thill, is a chic rooftop pool in Williamsburg, one of Brooklyn’s most desirable neighborhoods — there is still plenty of warm summer weather to enjoy.
“For me, my summer style — specifically beach and vacation style — is generally just a colorful, loud swimsuit with a simple camp collar linen shirt,” he tells us about this selected staple, which mimics other outfit inspiration from his recent Instagram photos. “When you just have a simple shirt, you can go pretty crazy with your swim trunks … I think my whole summer style inspiration is the film ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley.’”

What’s next for the globe-trotting Thill? “For Labor Day, I’ll be with a friend in Comporta, Portugal — about an hour south of Lisbon,” he says. “It’s supposed to be a laid back version of St. Tropez-meets-Montauk. I’m very excited to be staying at the newly opened Quinta da Comporta hotel.”
He adds: “For Fall, I’m most excited for going [to upstate New York] with friends and apple picking. I love those cheesy fall activities so much. My 2020 bucket list is to bike a 600 mile road through Patagonia in Chile.”
We’re all about keeping the swim trunks on as far into September as we can — no matter which country we’re in — but what about you? What do you want to see? Do you have a look or social media account you like?
